New house launches down 10% in 2015

Around 100,000 housing units were launched in Greater Bangkok, down 10% year-on-year, but the value rose by 20% to 416.55 billion baht, according to the independent survey firm Agency for Real Estate Affairs. Last year, 102,953 units were launched in Bangkok and nearby provinces through 385 projects. The number of projects fell 18% year-on-year  Sopon Pornchokchai, the company’s president, said the average price per unit in 2015 was 4.05 million baht, up 33% from 3.04 million in 2014. Condominiums were the most popular, at 61,975 units or 60% of total launches. The company said in December alone, there were a total of 23 projects worth 10.94 billion baht with 3,860 units launched. Of all units,   55% were the condominiums, followed by townhouses (35%). The average price per unit in December was 2.83 million baht, down 53% from November, reflecting a shift to woo mid- to low-income earners.
